Before Avatar, this was my all-time favorite animated series as it had one of the best stories in my opinion. When it comes to Anime, I feel that Japan has more creative ideas than we do, and this show was a good example of a great idea done right and has some of the most epic moments in Anime. I know that most people will say that the original anime was better, but here’s the thing, I did not like the way that the story ended in that series and even though it have a proper ending after watching the movie, Conquer of Shamballa, I still thought that Brotherhood had the better story because it had a proper ending and had more epic moments than the original anime. What makes this show worthy of excellence to me is the story, the voice acting, and moments of comedy, drama, and epic. Edward Elric is one of my favorite anime characters as he is funny, serious, and flawed as a character. Ed is the main driving character in the anime and has a great relationship to his brother Alphonse, who’s soul is bounded to a suit of armor after a tragic accident that took his body and Ed’s Leg and Arm. Both of these brothers have suffered through so much pain and I was emotionally invested into seeing these two get their bodies back using their skills with Alchemy. Not only were these two characters great, but they are joined by one of the most epic anime characters, Colonel Roy Mustang. Colonel Mustang is known as the Flame Alchemist and tries to help the two brothers find a way to get their bodies back, he uses his flame alchemy to blow away his enemies and will not hesitate to kill them if they piss him off. Throughout the show, Colonel Mustang has a character arc that involves his desires to become king of their country, Amestris, and has to go through many hurdles in order to obtain the qualities needed to become king. Roy Mustang has one of the best badass faces in the history of anime and the way he deals with his enemies are brutal and ruthless. I like the dubbed version of this show a lot, Vic Micgogna’s voice for Ed Elric is as perfect as I can listen to, whenever I hear the words of Ed, I hear Vic’s voice, the rest of the supporting voice cast does a really good job as well and can only be explained by watching the anime. I will say that Avatar is much better than this show, and the show has your typical anime tropes like cartoony effects for comedy and the ending is not as iconic as Avatar, but this is still a damn good show in my opinion.
